The Birthday Skirt
K.’s birthday is right around the corner and she asked me what I was making her this year. Oh, right, ok I can make you something honey. Meanwhile I was beaming inside that she wants something handmade again this year.
Now it has become a tradition that I make her a “birthday outfit”. The skirt was 100% free-handed/traced from another skirt she has and the fabric was sent from the very sweet Lisa.

The gathering and about 99% of the sewing was done on my sewing machine. It was made in all one piece then just seamed up the back so I didn’t have to fudge around with two pieces (who am I kidding? I suck at math!) After it was all completed, I headed to my serger to finish all the seams so no fraying would happen. That’s where I found out that sergers and gathers do NOT get along.
Overall though, I learned that it is way more fun to wing a pattern than to use some store bought pattern. Oh I love this skirt and I really hope K. will love it as well. Wait, who am I kidding……it has her 3 favorite things…….pink, skirt, and doggies!
