monkey see monkey do

The whole “I’m going to teach my girls how to knit” thing never was a priority to me. Perhaps because I figured that if they wanted to learn, they would approach me with it. And it just never happened till last week.

In February of this year I co-started a knitting group/beginners knitting class at our local library. And oh it is a lot of fun with those women!! That seemed to be what sparked the interest in our two girls, mostly Miss L.

So I got out some needles and yarn (size 15 needles and super bulky yarn is what I found to be very helpful for little hands – as well as instant progress), plopped Miss L on my lap and began knitting with her. I should mention that I had already casted on and was working on a “sample” to show a few woman at the library how to fix a dropped stitch and bind off. I worked the purl side and Miss L worked the knit side.

I am really impressed with how quickly she picked it up. Of course it does help that she has been watching me knit (as well as give her assistance) for a while now.

I could not really think of the nursery rhyme that is said while you teach a little one to knit, but I think ours is pretty close.

In through the front door,
Around the back.
Peak through the window,
and off jumps Jack.

She was really happy to see her progress and only needed my help at the beginning of the row.

Then Miss K came home from school and Miss L was chatty about our day of knitting.

So now our house has 3 knitters. I am bitter sweet about it. I love that my girls quickly picked up knitting, I really do…..but……more knitters under the same roof means less yarn in the house.

Each girl has talks about making their stuffies a blanket.
